Acids/Bases/Salts- alkali reacts with solutions of many metal ions to form insoluble metal hydroxides.
Fe(2+) : forms a
green precipitate/insoluble in excess sodium hydroxide
Fe(3+) : forms a
brown precipitate/insoluble in excess sodium hydroxide
Cu(2+) : forms a
blue precipitate/insoluble in excess sodium hydroxide
Ca(2+) : forms a
white precipitate/insoluble in excess sodium hydroxide
Al(3+) : forms a
white precipitate/soluble in excess sodium hydroxide [sodium aluminate]
Zn(2+) : forms a
white precipitate/soluble in excess sodium hydroxide [sodium zincate]
Pb(2+) : forms a
white precipitate/soluble in excess sodium hydroxide [sodium plumbite]
all nitrates, hydrocarbonates, salts of Na/K/NH4+ are soluble.
chlorides, iodides, bromides are soluble except for salts with Pb and Ag.
sulphate(2-) are soluble except for Pb, Ag and Ba.
shall stop here. sighx
